This is I Heart Granola's Story

When we were kids, cereal and Granola were something that we ate every morning for breakfast and many times for lunch and dinner too.

We loved it so much, we had elaborate dreams of opening up ‘The Cereal Bar’ in Cape Town, where people could eat chocolate-clustered Granola, Coco-pops and Fruit Loops to their hearts content. Problem is, most cereals and Granola’s are laden with added sugars and unhealthy additives. So where to from here?

A few years ago, I became interested in nutrition and fitness and in the process, decided to give up meat and all processed foods, which unfortunately included cereals and Granola’s in the morning.

I do however believe that there is always a healthier way to enjoy your favourite meals and snacks, by just tweaking the ingredients.

So, I started some late-night research and experimentation in the kitchen with healthier alternatives; like activated nuts and seeds, unique flavour variants, different cooking temperatures, times and methods.

Until finally, I created my own healthier Granola – one that did not need ridiculous amounts of sugar in every serving just to taste good!

However, was it just tasty to me, or was it actually as good as I thought it was? Time to do a simple taste test on someone else, and who better than my food sensitive sister?

Cat takes a leap of faith (gulp)

Towards the end of 2017, I was told I had IBS, as well as gluten and dairy sensitivities, meaning I had to completely overhaul my eating habits.

I had always been interested in food and being in the kitchen, but I had to do a complete 360 with my  new food sensitivities in mind.

This led to a new way of eating, and my blog ‘Le Famished Cat’ was born.

Steph then mentioned that she wanted to start a granola business, and I knew I needed to taste this granola. I mean, if your baking is good enough to sell, it must be  really delicious right?

So I put a spoonful in my mouth and let’s just say the rest is history.

I quit my full-time PR job in February 2018 and have dedicated my time to helping Steph set the business up.

I Heart Granola is Born – to bee or not to bee

With a lot of thought and questioning whether this was the right move for us, we decided to take the plunge – because in the end you only regret the chances you didn’t take.

In October 2018 we launched our first two signature flavours ‘Rose-marries Honey’ & ‘Cocoa-nut Affair’, each variant created from flavours we both love.

I Heart Granola is made with a whole lot of heart – with plans to add to the range in the future!
